Wild Moccasins 2010 Tour Kickoff and Live Music Footage from New Album out Soon

I am not afraid to admit it – I have become a huge Wild Moccasins fan. Here is a clip from their latest live recorded performance at Sugar Hill Studios.

The Wild Moccasins returned home from an East Coast/Midwest Tour just last year which found them recording sessions on popular blogs like If You Make It, WOXY, BreakThru Radio, My Old Kentucky Blog, and Daytrotter. Their first release Microscopic Metronomes brought them immediate welcome to the 2009 and 2010 Official SXSW Festival and won Best EP in the 2009 Houston Music Awards . During what seems to be such a short time period back home the band hasn’t lost any momentum recording a full-length at Sugar Hill Studios and playing shows to sold out audiences all over town.

Live footage confirms that the bands new album turns a new corner past cute into a direction where experience brings a more mature bigger sound. Guitarist Andrew Lee masters the art of short delays with an arsenal of pedals that play with sound making it at times feel epic, yet fully digestible to the most timid of listeners. This culminated with Cody Swan’s cleverly executed vocal harmonies synced with the beautiful voice of Zahira Gutierrez creates a sound that grazes upon both the beauties and the pain that only good music can bring out. Some may describe it as an extreme version of power pop, but one can’t help but feel excited when in the land of the Moccasins – Guarantees are always gladly met and bookers’ bills-well… you can consider them paid.

Most importantly one can’t argue that their music is just fun to listen to. Why is it that after each show they perform a new favorite Moccasin emerges, or that you find yourself laughing and dancing like a child? After replaying this video over and over, I had to re-post it cutting out all the opportunities for the band not to be heard because it captures exactly how their live shows are, minus a packed house of screaming happy fans. One band put it best embarrassed after having to play a rock n roll blues set after their energetic performance, “Wow, what i wouldn’t give to be able to play like i never realized how much life sucks…”, referring to the cruelties of the music business or the terrible surprises that life brings- death, discouragement, taxes…? Its refreshing for me as a Houstonian to see things go right for this band, and dammit i hope they live forever.

It’s no surprise why their highly hyped/clearly validated new album is cooking at the same studio that brought famed icon Beyonce Knowles her big start. The band will be touring the entire East coast during most of April while also playing official SXSW showcase dates in Austin, Texas. This year the band will be finalizing the release of their full length album, as well as shooting for at least 3 more tours throughout the greater part of the entire United States.

Community guest and ‘audience of one’ in the live footage is photographer  Mark C. Austin – Mark has covered festivals such as Bonnaroo, Voodoo Music Fest to Coachella and Jazz Fest and his work has been featured in publications like SPIN, Paste, Rolling Stone and Village Voice Media.
