IH: You guys travel with a Nintendo emulator. Do you have any other interesting things that you take on tour?
DD/MM/YYYY: The Nintendo emulator is great for its convenience and fun factor, I (Tomas) also personally like to bring drawing pens and paper, so I can mail a steady stream of drawings back home to my girl Alex. Matt likes to bring his rice cooker so he will never have to go without steamed veggies. Mike brings his passion for American policitcs by constantly downloading “Democracy Now” for us to listen too. Moshe brings a journal and Jordan brings rubber boots.
IH: How has the process of developing your newest album Black Square evolved from your first releases?
DD/MM/YYYY:Our first releases had very raw, noisy-fast, heavy and short songs. Over the years we have been trying to throw curve balls by incorporating mild pop-sensibilities and ethiopian percussive styles to expand our sound. We’ve also gotten more comfortable switching instruments to accent personal styles and song writing. In short perhaps we started sout very much like static on a tv but now we are static on a tv with a faint hint of Elton John laughing and drinking behind it.
IH: What was your worst gig?
DD/MM/YYYY:Our worst show was probably Saskatoon, Canada in 2007. We were playing with Japanther (Brooklyn) and Varge (Sudbury). The bill was amazing, we were playing with bands that we loved. Despite this rare aligning of planets, nobody came….Very depressing.
