The Mathlete Says Goodbye to the Past and Hello to a New set of Instruments, Songwriting, and Musical Persona

The Mathletes says goodbye to the past and hello to a new set of instruments, songwriting, and musical persona. The Mathletes Legacy, also known as TML, now only exists on mixed tapes throughout the city, broken links throughout the world wide web, and on a cleverly arranged band page. 10 years of existence and over 70 songs on independent short print releases and I for one am still wishing we could start back over again. Joe is  a man of many strengths, and through  bizarre coincidences and cameos in blogs, newspapers, online buzz – the city of Houston has also gotten to know his wonder.  Truth be told, The Mathletes hold a special place in our hearts and we are thankful for the opportunity to admire his stunning live performances, deeply personal blog contributions, cover songs, youtube videos, and comics. Perhaps the ice was just a little too thick this time around, but we at indiehouston know the future holds much bigger things. We also beg for all The Mathletes great songs to somehow find their way leaked out on the internet somewhere to buy or steal. Perhaps even through a creatively packaged master plan to find its way on vinyl without the need to sell organs or expensive credit card debt.

We are however happy to say that the new album recordings sound great and are available to listen to at

Here are also a few of our favorites from The Man Behind the Toaster Througout The Years, or more simply TMBTTTTY

A friend of mine sent this to me… This essentially summarizes most of what I try to say with the songs I write (when I’m trying to say something, anyway).

“Let me dream my dream… My stupid, stupid, stupid dream.”
